Kino Kabaret is an event that allows spontaneous creation of films, where filmmakers are given 72h to direct films before presenting them directly to an audience.
Montreal’s Kino Kabaret usually takes place alongside the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, but will be held for the first time as an independent event from April 30th to May 11th (round 1 from May 3rd to 5th, round 2 from May 6th to 8th, round 3 from May 9th to 11th); workshops and master classes will be held on the remaining days for all contestants.
KinoLab changes location and will be held at NOMAD, a coworking space near Rosemont metro station. Screenings will take place at the Théâtre Rialto on Saturday, May 5, Tuesday, May 8 and Friday, May 11.
About thirty directors will be chosen for Kino Kabaret. The international selection will be released on Friday, March 30 at the latest. The final selection of directors will be announced latest by Thursday, April 12.
Please note that there will be other directing opportunities for filmmakers whose applications are not officially selected for one of the 3 production rounds; however no technical support will be provided. There will be an « open screening » night and short filmmaking challenges will be offered for everyone.
As directors, you will have access to the tools you need to make your film, from on-set technical equipment to logistical assistance during post-production, not to mention research, casting and locations tools, and much more.
